Malcolm X: An Introduction by J.D. Salinger, artist book, sculptures, photographs, 2008

Drawing attention to the underlying racism in society was the catalyst for Malcolm X: An Introduction by J.D. Salinger . The title character “Seymour” was replaced with “Malcolm X ” and then the entire text was rewritten to accomodate this change.  The project sought to subvert racial segregation by bringing two unconnected individuals inexplicably into an intimate relationship.
